Mix together cinnamon and apple sauce until it makes a dough. The dough will be brown in color and be relatively thick like regular cookie dough.
Lightly sprinkle a flat surface with cinnamon to prevent dough from sticking. Knead dough until you have a firm, pasty consistency.
Roll out your dough to at least 3/8 inch thickness.
Cut out shapes with cookie cutters.
With a pencil end, poke a hole near the top of each shape. (Make sure the hole is not too close to the edge, and is large enough to insert a ribbon when dry.)
Drying: Bake on baking sheet in 150°F oven for 3-5 hours, or air dry for 2 days. When air-drying, be sure to turn over a few times every day for a more even finish.
Decorate when dry. Add a decorative ribbon for hanging.
These smell wonderful, but make sure your kids don’t eat them.
Store in an airtight plastic bag or container to use next holiday season.
OTHER DECORATING TIPS: When dry, use acrylic paint to color or sprinkle with glue & glitter for a sparkle or glue a ribbon around the edge.
TIPS & NOTES: A thicker ornament will be less apt to break. Once dry, you can lightly sand the edges for a smoother finish.
Tie to a present in addition to gift tag. Hang in car or on a window sill as a wonderful smelling air freshener. Place in a wreath or on garland.
