Mom's Apple Sauce Bread
This is an old family recipe that has been used for
at least three generations as Christmas gifts.
- 2/3 cup shortening
- 2 cups sugar
- 3 cups Tree Top Original Apple Sauce
- 4 cups flour
- 2 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1/2 tsp. allspice
- 1 cup raisins or cut up dried prunes
- 1 cup nuts, if desired
- 1 cup candied fruit, if desired
Cream shortening and sugar together. Add Tree Top Original Applesauce.
Combine all dry ingredients in a separate bowl and then add to the
apple sauce mixture. Mix until moistened. Add nuts and/or fruits,
if desired, by stirring with a spoon. Put in well-greased bread pans,
filling them 2/3 full. Regular loaf pans take about 1 hour and 20 minutes
at 350 degrees F. Smaller pans take a shorter time. Test by inserting a
toothpick in the center. If it comes out clean, the bread is done.
Fills 2 standard loaf pans (1 lb.; 9.65” X 5.71” X 2.76”) or
9 Mini loaf pans (5” X 3” X 2”)
