Our History

In the 1950s, Bill Charbonneau, his wife and two sons moved from southern California to the Yakima Valley. He purchased a small apple processing plant on “Produce Row” in Selah, Washington, and set about creating a premium quality apple juice. After perfecting his product, he held a contest among his employees to choose a brand name. “Tree Top” was the winning entry based on the belief that the best fruit grew at the top of the tree.

In 1960, a group of local apple growers formed a cooperative and purchased the Tree Top brand to ensure they had a solid market for their apples. Bill Charbonneau’s high standard of quality remained – and as the company’s expertise in turning fresh fruit into healthful products and ingredients grew, so did its size and reputation.

Today, Tree Top operates at eight locations in Washington, Oregon and California, including our subsidiary Northwest Naturals. While apple juice and apple sauce are still the backbone of our offerings, we now produce hundreds of other fruit ingredients and products. As always, our dedication to quality and craftmanship is the key ingredient.
