In an ungreased 8 or 9 inch square pan, combine the flour, brown sugar, seasonings and soda. Mix well with a fork. Sprinkle with chocolate chips. In a separate container, combine the apple sauce, vanilla, lemon juice, oil, egg and apple juice. Mix thoroughly with a wire whip or fork. Add the liquid mixture to the pan and mix. Bake at 350°F for about 40 minutes. Variations: Apple’n Chocolate cake – add ¼ cup sifted cocoa powder to dry ingredients and eliminate the allspice. Apple’n Raisin Cake – add ½ cup raisins in place of chips.
